Recent Stock News

Ryan:

I figure we can have a thread where we can post any relevant news about our current stocks in the portfolio.




This was on CNBC about Qualcomm.


As most of you know we have increased our position by 100 shares, lowering the cost basis to around $41.72, putting us in positive territory!



Anna:

Well, I would add to that and our prior conversation about IMAX. James Cameron (the creator or Avatar and Alice in Wonderland) gave a very interesting interview today. He mentioned an interesting technological trend regarding 3D on cellphones and laptops. Adding that to the growing mobile commerce sector...Here is the interview...








Anna: New iPhone Could End AT&T's U.S. Monopoly

Apple Inc. plans to begin producing this year a new iPhone that could allow U.S. phone carriers other than AT&T Inc. to sell the iconic gadget, said people briefed by the company.
Qualcomm Inc., which holds patent rights to CDMA, is the dominant designer of CDMA chips.

Spring 2010 Portfolio Objectives


We have decided to post the goals and objectives that we plan to accomplish for the portfolio during the Spring semester (2010). This should give future portfolio managers a better understanding of how we came about our investment decisions.



One of our first objectives was to update the excel spreadsheets to correctly reflect our positions and their sector weights so that we could decide how to properly allocate our future assets.

Toyota story developing



I couldn't help posing about Toyota... We have been following Toyota for a while now and watched it drop and rise again...So, finally Tomorrow in a San Diego courtroom, dozens of lawyers leading class action lawsuits against Toyota will jockey to become one of the lead attorney's in a national class action case against the auto maker.

Emerging Markets Stocks Research

To all stock analyst,

We have decided in class today(Mon, March 22) to concentrate our research on the emerging markets, in particular China, and present our findings next Monday. Telecommunication sector is the area of our interest in China.

Analysts would pick a company and post their findings and comments on the blog for the rest of the class to consider. They will also be presenting their recommendations in class next Monday.
